Regional Council policy

The policies of the Regional Council, decided by resolutions passed at Regional Council meetings

Request for Ballot

This resolution, proposed by TfL no.1 branch, was passed unanimously by the February Regional Council meeting.

This branch believes that TfL/LUL are jumping on the bandwagon of the recession, using it as an excuse to cut jobs. If we let the company get away with cutting admin/non operational grades, it will set a precedent, and have a double negative effect. A) it will make everyone’s life harder as all admin jobs are vital to the safe operating of the railway and the care of the employees themselves and B) it will make it easier for them to slash operational jobs.

RMT London Transport Regional Council - Recruitment and Retention Strategy 2009

This strategy was agreed at the January meeting of the Regional Council.

The recession makes union membership even more important for all ordinary people in Britain.

However many people are not aware of what a union is let alone the importance of a well-unionised workforce for pay, conditions and job security. Some non-members, particularly, may think union membership is an unnecessary expense. Active recruitment is now even more important than ever. It is in the interests of the whole workforce that RMT has the biggest possible membership

Support the Shministim

This resolution, proposed by TfL no.1 branch and seconded by Stratford no.1 branch, was passed with one abstention at the Regional Council meeting in January 2009.

This Union notes that 7 Israeli teenagers – known as Shiministim – are refusing to serve in the Israeli army because they object to Israel’s military occupation of the Palestinian territories. They are all 18 or 19 years old, have been called for military service but have refused to go and are now in prison.

Charter for Track Workers

This resolution, proposed by LU Engineering branch and seconded by TfL no.1 branch, was carried unanimously by the Regional Council in January 2009.

This region notes that successful recruitment needs planning and support from the whole region. We further note the success of other Charters for Cleaners/ Drivers etc and therefore call on the London Transport Region to endorse a similar charter for track workers:

Resolution: Retired Members Delegate Numbers for BEMMAC

This resolution, proposed by Finsbury Park branch, was passed at the January meeting of the Regional Council:

“That this region requests the General Secretary and the Council of Executives of the RMT allocate three additional position for Retired members of the RMT to the Black and Ethnic Minority Members Advisory Committee.”

Station supervisor conference re cleaning issues

This resolution, submitted by Finsbury Park branch, was passed at the October 2008 meeting of the Regional Council

This branch notes the concerns expressed by our station members about the effects of the cutback on station cleaners on cleaners' workload, levels of cleanliness and attendant health and safety issues.

We call on the regional council to organise a meeting of station reps and supervisors to discuss this issue.

Call For Delegation to Durban II

This resolution, submitted by Finsbury Park branch, was passed at the October 2008 meeting of the Regional Council

United Nations World Conference Against Racism (WCAR) Review Geneva: 20 – 24th April 2009 “Call for delegation to DURBAN II”

The UN World Conference Against Racism Review process is currently taking place and a second round of preparation meetings will be held on the 6th to 17th October 2008.

Representation in service control grades

This resolution, submitted by Stratford no.1 branch, was passed at the October 2008 meeting of the Regional Council

=====

Due to recent changes and anomalies in the representation of controllers/service managers within Service Control, this branch requests that the regional council adopts the following rule changes as a workable temporary arrangement until the time that the executive can produce a new set of rules.

As local representatives do not exist in the Controller/Service Manager grades within Service Control.
