Regional Council policy

The policies of the Regional Council, decided by resolutions passed at Regional Council meetings

National Express East Coast

This resolution, submitted by LU Fleet branch, proposed by Hammersmith & City and seconded by DLR, was passed by the October 2009 meeting of to the Regional Council ...

The collapse of privatisation on National Express East Coast has again vindicated the RMT's position that railways should always have remained in the public sector and that the threatened sell-off of the franchise to Stagecoach will only be a repeat of the original mistake of privatisation.

Resolution: Young Members Organisation Material

This resolution, submitted by Neasden branch and seconded by Bakerloo branch, was carried unanimously at the September meeting of the Regional Council.

This Branch recognises the importance of Young Members in our union.

We also note that the existing Young Members Banner fails to represent Youth, apart from the words “Young Member” and fails to represent all grades and the diversity of our union.

We request that the Young Members Committee design and produce the following organising items and that the funds for these are to be made available via Unity House.

Resolution: National Young Members Advisory Committee – Formation as per Rule Book

This resolution, submitted by Neasden branch and seconded by TfL no.1 branch, was passed uannimously at September's Regional Council.

This Branch notes that absence of the Young Members Advisory Committee, in previous years, the young members conference has elected a Young Members Liaison Committee and this committee has been expected to carry out the duties of the Advisory Committee.

Resolution: Affiliation of Branches with London Overground Members

The following resolution, submitted by the Regional Council Executive, was passed unanimously by the August meeting of the Regional Council.

This union believes that:

1. London Overground is now under the auspices of Transport for London.

2. We need to campaign effectively for improved pay and conditions across TfL and its subsidiaries / franchisees, and for the reintegration of London's transport into a single publicly-owned body.

3. We will be most effective in doing this if London Overground RMT members are working closely with members in the rest of London Transport

Regional Council Calls for Measures to Increase Participation in RMT LGBT Conferences

RMT's London Transport Regional Council has submitted the following two items for inclusion on the agenda of either the union's Council of Executives or its National Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender Advisory Committee, whichever the General Secretary considers appropriate:

1. Maximum number of delegates to LGBT Conference

Resolution: Mayor Johnson and 'Chicken Feed'

This resolution, submitted by Jubilee South and East London Line branch, was passed at the August Regional Council meeting.

This Branch/Regional Council is appalled, but not surprised, by the recent comments made by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, that his payment of £250k, for writing a Sunday newspaper column, was nothing more than ‘chicken feed’.

We feel this is a disgrace, considering the Mayor’s actions in intervening in the current LUL pay dispute, and also the failure to pay cleaners the London living wage.

Resolution: Swine Flu

This resolution, submitted by Jubilee South and East London Line branch, was passed unanimously at the August Regional Council meeting.

This Branch/Regional Council believes that LUL management's consistent refusal to meet with the safety council and discuss a strategy for dealing with the outbreak of swine influenza is completely unacceptable.
