Regional Council policy

The policies of the Regional Council, decided by resolutions passed at Regional Council meetings

Branch Membership Lists

The Regional Council Executive submitted the following resolution to the April meeting of the Regional Council, where it was passed with one abstention.

This Regional Council expects Branch Secretaries to attend head office at least bi-monthly with an up-to-date membership list for their branch.

Resolution: Death at G20 Protests

Stratford no.1 branch has passed this resolution and submitted it for discussion at the April meeting of the Regional Council.

This branch / Regional Council regrets the violent circumstances surrounding the death of newspaper seller Ian Tomlinson at the G20 demonstrations. This unfortunate individual, guilty of nothing more than being in the wrong place at the wrong time, was known to many of our members at Bank/Monument station. We send our condolences to his friends and family and call for legal action against those individuals responsible for his death.

Resolution: Stop Post Office Privatisation

This resolution, submitted by Stratford no.1 branch and seconded by Finsbury Park branch, was passed unanimously at the April meeting of the Regional Council.

This branch / Regional Council deplores the government's plan to privatise the Post Office.

Given our experience in the rail industry, we know that privatisation - whether to a British or foreign private owner - is a disaster for workers and service users.

Resolution: Cleaners

This resolution, proposed by Finsbury Park branch and seconded by Camden 3 branch, was passed unanimously by the Regional Council meeting on 26 March.

We note with increasing concerns the intensification of the attacks on our Cleaning Grade members and Representatives by their Bosses which have led to vindictive sacking spearheaded by ISS.

ISS have now refused to pay the outstanding London Living Wages (LLW) for Cleaning Grade staff working via sub contractors TubeLines and there is no indication that they will pay the LLW for 2009.

Resolution: Training and Strategy re Employment Act 2008

This resolution, proposed by Piccadilly & District West branch and seconded by Hammersmith & City branch, was passed unanimously by the March meeting of the Regional Council.

On April 6th 2009 the Employment Act 2008 repeals 2002 Employment Act sections 29 to 33 and Schedules 2 to 4 (which make provision for statutory dispute resolution procedures).

It also repeals the Employment Rights Act 1996 (c. 18), section 98A (procedural fairness).

Resolution: Support the Youth Fight for Jobs campaign

This resolution, proposed by TfL no.1 branch, was passed unanimously at the February meeting of the Regional Council.

More than three million are expected to be unemployed by the end of 2009. Young people are among the first to be thrown on the scrapheap. Currently, 40% of those losing their jobs are between 18 and 24.

G20 Demonstration

This resolution, proposed by LU Fleet branch, was passed unanimously by the February meeting of the Regional Council.

The leaders of the world’s most powerful nations will meet in London in April.

They come together against a backdrop of world slump, war and rising anger at the nightmare they have created.

The point of the G20 is meant to be to find solutions – but world leaders are running out of ideas. They aim to make workers pay for the crisis.

Metronet Redundancies

This emergency resolution, submitted by LU Fleet branch, was passed unanimously by the February meeting of the Regional Council.

This Branch calls upon the RMT Executive to call a strike ballot of all members in Metronet (London Underground) if the following demand is not met.

We require a written guarantee from Metronet (London Underground) that they recognise and accept that we have a no compulsory redundancy agreement under the PPP Code of Practice and therefore will not impose any compulsory redundancies on Metronet (London Underground) staff.

Metronet & LUL Pay and Conditions

This emergency resolution from LU Engineering branch was passed unanimously at the February meeting of the Regional Council.

"This branch notes that now Metronet have been brought back into TfL that there is a concerted effort to crush the RMT and end its hard fought agreements. This has involved:

· Attempts to sack/ discipline our reps

· Refusal to talk about pay. We believe that this is based on a deliberate tactic by the bosses in the face falling RPI figures.

· The use of Private Covert Security Teams to monitor staff
