What is a National Executive Committee decision?
This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.
These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.
We note the reply from London Underground Ltd regarding inner inter-car barriers. We note that this letter does not address the request in our previous letter for an assurance that LUL has abandoned all plans to remove detrainment staff from the Central Line (or any other line) and all plans to reduce the number of staff on its stations. We do not accept that this can wait until after the Formal Investigation Report, and instruct the General Secretary to write to LUL again specifically on this matter, insisting on a reply, which is to be placed in front of us.
We do not accept LUL’s version of events regarding the consultation, which our representatives confirm was wholly inadequate. We also reject, and deplore, LUL’s assertion that there is a ‘conflict of interest’ for our representatives between participating in consultation and pursuing an industrial dispute.
We instruct the General Secretary to forward LUL’s letter to our representative Brother Peter Sheridan, asking him for any comments and documentation, which are to be placed on file.
Reports and developments are to be placed in front of us.
London Transport Regional Council, branches and London Underground representatives to be advised.
