On Monday 18th March, RMT reps from several Functional Councils (MATS, Service Control, Engineering, Fleet) were told that plans for further reorganisation on London Underground would begin on Monday 25th March. We were not given any further information until yesterday (21st March) when we were invited to attend a large number of staff briefings in different areas of the company.
This is the same approach the company took during the last Transformation and your MATS reps reached an agreement with the company that we would be presented with any plans for reorganisation in advance of them being presented to the rest of the business. The reason for this agreement was because during the last Transformation, LU singled out the reps and gave the impression that we were presenting these plans together. This could not be further from the truth. The RMT opposes all job cuts. We want to be in possession of as much information as possible to support our members and fight against any job losses. We need time to fully read and understand business cases from the multiple areas affected, in order for us to give our members the correct advice.
At the moment, we do not have any information from London Underground about how many people are going to be impacted by this, or which grades. Furthermore, we believe that London Underground are not following their own agreements correctly in the way they are forcing through these changes and RMT Head Office have written to LU to demand that the plans are stopped until a proper process has been followed.
Any members who are affected by this round of Transformation are encouraged to speak to their RMT rep, attend your Branch meetings and any other RMT meetings that are organised. The purpose of these meetings is to share information and decide on action that we can take together as a union to fight these savage and unnecessary cuts.
