RMT Conference Endorses Mass Campaign and Industry Strike In Response To McNulty Assault On Railways

THE AGM of rail union RMT, meeting in Fort William this week, has endorsed plans for a massive national campaign, including a cross-industry strike ballot if necessary, to resist any attempts by the Government to roll out its McNulty Rail Review assault on Britain’s railways.

Revised Decision: Ballot for Action on Hammersmith & City Line

That we note the report from our Regional Organiser on this matter. In accordance with the branch's revised wishes, we rescind our previous decision on this matter. We instruct the General Secretary to ballot our driver members at Hammersmith depot for strikes and action short of strikes, and to ballot our driver members at Edgware Road and Barking (H&C) depots for action short of strikes.

We instruct the General Secretary to send a letter by post to all members being balloted, explaining the issue and the case for voting for industrial action.

TfL Unions Oppose Plan to "Streamline" Job-Cutting Process

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

That we note the report from our Regional Organiser. We oppose TfL’s attempt to streamline its OCP policy in order to make it easier to make redundancies due to funding cuts.

We note that all unions have agreed to reject management’s proposal to deal with this at a joint meeting at Company Council level, and instruct the General Secretary to write to TfL/LUL accordingly; the reply to be placed in front of us.

Derailment Caused By Crumbling Infra-structure And Staff Shortages

TUBE UNION RMT today demanded an immediate halt to staffing and maintenance cuts as an investigation report revealed that crumbling infra-structure and staffing cuts led to a potentially-lethal tube derailment last year.

The derailment happened between Earl's Court and Gloucester Road on the Piccadilly line at 5.30am on 12 May 2010. The train consisted of two locos, two wagons and a track machine.

RMTv: Reinstate Arwyn and Eamonn

The RMT have released a video to explain the reason for balloting members to get our sacked reps, Eamonn Lynch and Arwyn Thomas reinstated.

RMT is balloting for industrial action at London Underground over the victimisation of these two drivers and union reps.

RMT warns of more tube chaos as LU cut safety-critical inspections by half

TUBE UNION RMT warned of more tube chaos for passengers as it emerged that as part of the TfL cuts programme the frequency of safety-critical inspections is being slashed from twice a week to once a week.

In a safety licensing concession requested by LU the twice weekly inspection of track and infrastructure in sidings and depots will be cutback to just once a week. These inspections are in the areas of highest traffic anywhere on the network with fleet constantly being shunted in and out.

Video: Demonstrate Against Government Cuts - 26 March

RMT slams latest Government “Bad Bosses Charter”

TRANSPORT UNION RMT today launched an all out attack on the latest “Bad Bosses Charter” pumped out by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills that will allow employers to harass and bully employees staff without any comeback.

The “Employers Charter”, issued by BIS through their Business Link agency, sets out an agenda for attacking workers and paves the way for dumping staff on the dole with impunity. The Charter allows bosses to:

  • Drive through redundancies and dismissals without any meaningful consultation
  • Make pay cuts and pressure staff to work longer hours

Resolution for a national 'SOS: Staff Our Stations' campaign

Stratford no.1 branch is submitting the following resolution to RMT's Station and Associated Grades Conference:

'SOS: STAFF OUR STATIONS' CAMPAIGN

This conference recognises the full-scale onslaught by employers on station staffing levels. This is a threat to station staff jobs, to safety and service standards, and to the help available to other grades.

We request the union to launch and run a national campaign entitled 'SOS: Staff Our Stations', to include:
- industrial action against any attacks by employers on station staffing
