Demonstration To Be Held To Defend Bombardier Derby Works

SAVE UK TRAIN MAKING MASS MARCH AND RALLY THIS SATURDAY

Tens of thousands of trade unionists are expected to be out on the streets of Derby this Saturday (23rd July) in a mass march and rally to save the last train-building plant in the UK - Bombardiers Derby works.
The march will assemble at Bass’s Recreation Ground, Derby (DE1 2PB) (Map.) at 10am and is supported by RMT, Unite, GMB and TSSA.

RMT General Secretary Bob Crow said:

“The decision to award the £3bn contract to Siemens of Germany for the manufacture of Thameslink trains is a national scandal with dire consequences for Bombardier at Derby, First Capital Connect fleet maintenance depots and the wider economy of the East Midlands.

“Despite bogus claims by the Government, this EU-inspired stitch up is not a done deal and there is still time to get this outrageous decision reversed as it will not be signed off until the end of the year.

“Bombardier, which is the last remaining UK based train manufacturer, has already announced over 1400 jobs losses and thousands more, including those in the supply chain, are under threat.

“On Saturday, the people of Derby will have their say and it’s about time this Government showed the guts to stand up to the silent-assassins of the European Union and, instead of following EU diktat, started listening to the people whose livelihoods are on the line.”
