RMT Organises Cleaners Strike Rally In Build Up To Co-ordinated Industrial Action

From General Secretary Bob Crow

As a key element of the strategy to gain justice for all our cleaning members working in the transport industry, the Union has planned co-ordinated industrial action against the employers we are currently in dispute with over pay and conditions, to take place on 30 November/1 December.

I am writing to advise you of an eve of strike rally arranged in London at 7.00 pm on Thursday 29 November at:

ISS, Initial And Carlisle Cleaning & Security Members To Take Industrial Action

Circular from General Secretary Bob Crow
IMPROVING PAY & CONDITIONS – CARLISLE CLEANING & SECURITY (DOCKLANDS LIGHT RAILWAY) (DLR/10/1)

I write to advise branches that following the recent yes vote in favour of industrial action, the company agreed to a seven day extension to our ballot and further talks took place. However no agreement has been reached, the General Grades Committee has now considered this matter and has taken the following decision: -

Security, 'Travelsafe' & Cleaning Members Working For Carlisle On The DLR To Strike For Better Pay

We note our Regional Organiser’s report, and the failure of the employer to meet the just demands of our security, Travelsafe and cleaning members on this contract. We instruct all members on this contract to:

  • take industrial action short of strike action by working to rule on Wednesday 28 November
  • take strike action by not booking on for any duties starting at or after 05:30 on Thursday
29 November and to return to duties starting at or after 05:30 on Saturday 1 December.

We further instruct the General Secretary to:

Initial Cleaning Members To Take Industrial Action Over Pay

We instruct all members on this contract to take strike action by not booking on for any duties starting at or after 05:30 on Friday 30 November and to return to duties starting at or after 05:30 on Sunday 2 December.

We instruct the General Secretary to:

  • send a personal letter by post to all members involved, explaining this action.
  • email our London Underground members, urging their support for this action.

ISS Cleaners Pay & Conditions 2012

We instruct all members on this contract to take strike action by not booking on for any duties starting at or after 05:30 on Friday 30 November and to return to duties starting at or after 05:30 on Sunday 2 December.

We instruct the General Secretary to:

  • send a personal letter by post to all members involved, explaining this action.

National Strategy For Justice For Cleaners In The Transport Industry

We note correspondence from our cleaning grade secretary requesting that following the transfer of cleaning members on London Underground to Vinci, we pursue a dispute on this contract.

We therefore instruct the General Secretary to urgently convene a meeting of our representatives on the Vinci contract to discuss how to progress this. A report of this meeting is to be placed in front of us as soon as is practical.

London Transport Regional Council and branches to be advised.

Tube Lines Staff New Wave Of Strike Action In Fight For Pension’s And Passes Justice

A NEW wave of tube strike action on London Underground will kick off on Friday in a long-running dispute over equality and a fair deal on pensions and passes for Tube Lines staff.

Previous strike action and an overtime ban led to the cancellation of tens of millions of pounds worth of essential engineering works on the Northern Line and raised new safety fears as the Emergency Response Unit joined with fellow Tube Lines staff in support of the fight for pensions and benefits justice.

The latest strike action will take place as follows:

RMT Rejects TFL Pay Offer For 2012:

We note the views of our TfL no.1 branch on the pay offer from Transport for London.

We affirm the branch’s view that RMT should not accept TfL's pay offer. We do not support Performance-Related Pay, and we will not endorse part of our members' pay rise in the second year of this deal being conditional on us accepting a PRP policy that we have not even seen yet.

RMT is disappointed that other unions have accepted the offer and not taken up our request to pursue our concerns.

Carlisle Security Agree To Lengthen Strike Mandate As Discussion Continues

We note the report from our lead officer. The employer has indicated that it will agree to extend the deadline for calling industrial action by seven days, but has not yet sent the correct wording for this.

Should the correct wording be received from the employer, we instruct the General Secretary to place this item back in front of us within seven days, with a report of the meeting with the employer due to take place this Thursday, 15 November.

Should the correct wording not be received from the employer by Wednesday 14 November, we call industrial action as follows:
