CSM2 job under threat

The CSM2 job is now is seriously under threat as a result of some LU Area Managers lobbying hard behind the scenes for its abolition. RMT knows the CSM2 grade doesn't work - but not for the reasons being touted by managers. One idea being seriously canvassed is the merging of adjacent CSM2-type areas, with stations to be run by a CSS in exactly the same way as an SS2 used to until LU stupidly abolished SS grades to drive down pay, and this would likely be a CSS2; there are usually no Ops Rooms. There would be an expansion & evolution of the CSM3 into a quasi-DSM role - does this structure sound familiar?

Some AM's would be axed and already you can see a vicious, Darwinian struggle going on within the bloated ranks of AM-dom; LU won't sustain a structure with 96 AM's, and AM's know a cull is a-coming. With one of the AM's now acting as 'shop steward' for some of the CSM2-area AM's, talks have already taken place at the highest level to flesh out ideas. If this were to come about it'd mean the pay rate for a location like say, Mile End, would have dropped all the way from SS2 money to the former-SAMF rate, with a further loss of station jobs. This was rumbling before we balloted but has broken out into the open now and we need to ensure it becomes part of the overall fight for station jobs.
