Mordern & Oval Branch Newsletter: A Tribute To Bob Crow

Morden Oval Branch News pays tribute to RMT General Secretary Bob Crow who passed away recently.

On Tuesday March 11th 2014, the sad news reached us that Bob Crow; leader of the National Union of Railway, Maritime and Transport workers had died of a heart attack. It was shocking news. Many of us who knew or had met Bob, appreciated he was much more than the portrayal the right wing press and it’s counterparts loved to vilify. Bob was amicable, modest and highly approachable to anyone who wanted a word with him.

Advice For Drivers As ANP Is Removed

Despite agreements reached with London Underground and your union just over a year ago at Directors level regarding the implementation of Auto Not Permitted (ANP) while P-Way staff or trespassers were on the track, LU have decided to remove this facility without meaningful consultation with your union and without the participation of local safety representatives in the workplace risk assessments around this.

Say no to ticket office closures

Say no to ticket office closures and fare rises.

Sign the petition to say no to yet another inflation-busting fares hike and staff cuts & ticket office closures at Balham, Tooting Bec and Tooting Broadway
Under Mayor Boris Johnson tube and bus fares in London have become the most expensive anywhere in the world. Not only are you paying more, you are getting worse value for your money. The Mayor has plans to cut staff and close Balham, Tooting Bec and Tooting Broadway ticket offices – making commuting more difficult and less safe.

Northern Line Incident 'Critical' As Trains Approach Each Other On Single Track Again

In the latest incident, which happened at 9.50 on Monday morning (22nd July), the driver was given a target speed and proceeded to depart Finchley Central from platform.

He was already in the process of stopping as he had seen another train heading towards him from Mill Hill East as the Line Control emergency call to stop came through.

The driver was forced to carry out a wrong directional move back to Finchley Central to allow the train from Mill Hill East to continue to Finchley Central, an emergency preventative move that could only be carried out by a driver up-front in the cab.

Justice for the 33- Coming to a branch near you

Come to your branch and help with the decision to ballot all LUL members to get all ofthe 33 back to work.
Just before Christmas 2012, 33 RMT members on the north end of the Bakerloo Line were sacked by LUL. Many of them worked for LUL for over 5 years, only to be told they had failed the entrance tests for full time work.
This broke an agreement with the RMT.
The 33 were sacked due to LUL ending theircontract a year early.
It was agreed that the 33 would be migrated into LUL.
It is also clear LUL have colluded with the agencies to rob staff of over £1500.00 each in back pay.
