Tube Driver Action Prevents Potentially Lethal Incident With 12 Year Old Boy And Highlights Case For “detrainment” Staff

TUBE UNION RMT today praised the intervention of a Bakerloo Line tube driver which prevented a potential tragedy involving a 12 year old boy

The incident took place on Monday at 3.30 pm. The 12 year old boy was over-carried (on board the train after its final passenger stop) into the Queens Park sidings. Previously these trains used to be physically checked that they were empty prior to going into the sidings. RMT objected to the ending of detraining and said at the time that getting rid of detrainment staff was unsafe.

Campaigners Demand Living Wage For All London's Transport Cleaners From Mayor Boris Johnson

TRANSPORT union RMT, along with supporters from the community, will be stepping up the demand next week that Mayor Boris Johnson increases the London living wage to £10 per hour, benefiting cleaners and other low-paid workers.

Campaigners will demonstrate outside the GLA Headquarters on Wednesday 17th October at 0900 hours, to call for better pay and conditions for transport cleaners.

RMT General Secretary Bob Crow Reacts To West Coast Rail Franchise Fiasco

Reacting to government abandonment of west coast tendering RMT general secretary Bob Crow said;

"The whole sorry and expensive shambles of rail privatisation has been dragged into the spotlight this morning and instead of re-running this expensive circus, the West Coast route should be renationalised on a permanent basis. Those ministers who have presided over this fiasco should also be called to account.

London Overground Safety And Security Staff Balloted For Strike Action In Bullying Dispute

TRANSPORT UNION RMT confirmed today that security and safety staff employed by STM Security Group on London Overground services will be balloted for both strike action and action short of a strike this week in a dispute over bullying and an attempt to impose new terms and conditions.

STM are contracted to provide safety and security services on London Overground stations.

Despite several warnings from RMT, management at STM Security Group have continued to bully and intimidate our Travel Safe Officer member’s and union representatives.

RMT Demands Scrapping Of Thameslink Siemens Deal Following West Coast Mainline Fiasco

RAIL UNION RMT today demanded that the Government call a halt to the 18 month long saga of the Siemens/Thameslink fleet contract after it emerged that it has been stitched together by the same group of Ministers and Government officials responsible for the collapse of the West Coast main line franchising deal.

Further to Circular NP/082/12 dated 3 April 2012, I am pleased to inform you that last night the Government announced that it was withdrawing its plans to remove most injuries from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme. This follows intense lobbying by the Union, working with the RMT Parliamentary Group and the submissions put in by Thompsons Solicitors and John Hendy QC on our behalf.

RMT To Ballot For Action Over Driverless Tube

TUBE UNION RMT confirmed today that it is to ballot for strike action and action short of a strike in a dispute over plans to rip up the safety rule book and begin the testing of driverless trains on London Underground.

Initially, RMT will be balloting all members who are test train drivers but the union has also made it clear that it will be looking at which other grades may be called upon to test-drive units with a view to balloting those staff as well.

RMT Secures Landmark Legal Victory For Victimised Members

Transport union RMT has hailed an employment tribunal ruling that bus company Arriva unlawfully discriminated against two employees because of their RMT membership.

Marcus Farr and Len Graves were harassed, disciplined and threatened with the sack by Arriva because they wore high visibility vests with the union logo on.

The tribunal ordered Arriva to pay the men compensation, including aggravated damages to Mr Graves, and to pay the union its legal costs.
