RMT Deplores Mistreatment of London Suburban Taxi Drivers

We note the resolution from our London Taxi Drivers branch, and deplore the mistreatment of London Suburban taxi drivers, especially since the introduction of the identifier tags earlier this year.

We instruct the General Secretary to convene a meeting with GGC members, representatives of our London Taxi Drivers branch and a legal adviser within 14 days, to discuss possible legal recourse and other options and campaigning tactics that may be open to us, and to place a report of this meeting in front of us.

RMT Demands An End To Agencies, With Workers Given Permanent Jobs Instead

We believe that railway employers are increasingly using agencies such as Trainpeople, in order to casualise the workforce, prepare for job cuts, and undermine our power to take effective strike action. The use of agencies is part of the employers’ and government’s strategy for pursuing the McNulty proposals.

We believe that every railway worker is entitled to a permanent, secure job. We therefore demand an end to the use of agencies, with their employees offered direct employment with the railway company at which they work.

Brother Petrit Case Progresses

We note the report from our Regional Organiser, and further verbal reports indicating possible progress towards resolving the complaint against our representative. We instruct the General Secretary to place a report in front of us as to progress within seven days.

We further instruct the General Secretary to ensure as a matter of urgency that our instructions in our previous decision on this matter on 17 July are carried out.
