RMT allocates members to branches, which organise union activity in a defined area, or 'sphere of influence'. In London Transport region, there are 17 branches, organising in the following areas:

  • London Underground Ltd station staff (SS, SA(CR), SAMF, CSA) at all Bakerloo line stations between Harrow & Wealdstone and Elephant & Castle
  • Cleaners at these stations

RMT to Consider How We Can Help Tackle Homophobic Bullying in Schools

In response to the resolution from RMT's AGM (submitted by RMT LGBT conference) - which you can read here - the Council of Executives has made the following decision:

That we note the Resolution from the AGM and to prosecute this Resolution, the General Secretary is instructed to:-

1. Contact the charity Diversity Role Models and ask for a presentation from them to a Council of Executives and ask to give a presentation to the LGBT Advisory Committee; their views will be tabled for the Council of Executives to consider.

RMT Expands Black and Ethnic Minority Members' Advisory Committee

This RMT Executive decision maintains the same ratio of seats to members, but increases the maximum per region from 5 to 6 and introduces a minimum of 2:

That after reviewing the number of Black and Ethnic minority members, we recommend to the Council of Executives that for the period of office from 1st January 2013 to the 31st December 2015 there will be a minimum of two delegates and a maximum of six delegates per Regional Council Area based upon one delegate per 150 members.

RMT Reaffirms Composition of Women's Advisory Committee

That after reviewing the number of women members we recommend to the Council of Executives that in the elections for this committee whose tenure will start from1st January 2013 until 31st December 2015 there will be one delegate per 150 women per Regional Council Area with a maximum of 5 delegates per Regional Council Area.

RMT LGBT Members Social And Demo

In July, the RMT annual general meeting passed a motion on international LGBT rights: the time for us to take action is now.

In recent weeks, LGBT rights activists in Zimbabwe have reported a shocking rise in state-sponsored intimidation, arbitrary arrests, and beatings of Zimbabwean LGBT people. In August, the building of GALZ (Gays and Lesbians Zimbabwe) was raided and President Robert Mugabe’s riot police arrested 44 LGBT activists.

RMT Responds To News That Patrick Mcloughlin Is New Transport Secretary

At yesterdays Tory cabinet reshuffle Patrick Mcloughlin was appointed as the new transport secretary. Mcloughlin, MP for the Derbyshire Dales constituency has been a Conservative MP since 1986 The website 'theyworkforyou.com' lists him as voting 'strongly against equal gay rights,' 'very strongly for the Iraq war' and 'moderately against a transparent Parliament' among other things.

RMT To Collate Information As Part Of Fight Against Future Job Cuts At LUL

We note that this document adds further evidence to support our belief that London Underground is planning a wholesale attack on jobs and conditions, under the pretext of new technology such as driverless trains, smartcard ticketing and automated maintenance. We reaffirm this union’s view that new technology should be used to complement staff, improve services and increase safety – not as a pretext for cutting staff and cutting corners.

Equality Advisory Committees – Basis Of Elections

National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Advisory Committee

In the absence of statistics as to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender membership, we reaffirm the existing basis of election to this Advisory Committee as up to five delegates per Regional Council area. This is to be reviewed prior to the next election in 2015.

Probe Demanded Into Plans To Force Taxpayer To Spend Up To £200m On Freight Yards Gifted To Private Companies

RAIL UNION RMT today demanded a parliamentary probe into plans passed to the union which would see the publicly-owned Network Rail forced to buy-back rail freight yards gifted to private rail freight companies as part of the privatisation carve-up of railway assets.
