Circular: Reduction of Station Staff and Duty Manager Grade Progression

circular logoThis is an official RMT circular - IR/72/10 dated 4th of March 2010, from General Secretary Bob Crow.

Reduction Of Station Staff Levels – LUL (LUL/14/5)

A document recently came into our possession with outlined an alarming report which could potentially result in the loss of hundreds of station staff positions on LUL. On viewing the document the following decision was made: -

“That we note the leaked management document confirming that LUL are planning to cut hundreds of station staff jobs. These plans would spell disaster for our members and for any proper running of the Underground, which would lose the ability to deal with day to day safety issues, lose the ability to deal properly with the needs of passengers and totally lose the ability to deal with major incidents such as security alerts or the Olympics. We note that this savage attack on jobs and the integrity of the Underground service is contrary to the promises made by Mayor Johnson in his election campaign.

The General Secretary instructed us to urgently prepare a matrix of all LUL members, to alert our members to the imminent crisis, to conduct a high profile publicity campaign and to work with the LT Region and South East Office to prepare campaign materials . “

We are in the process of producing materials for the campaign and this will be circulated in due course.

Duty Manager Grade Progression – LUL (LUL/10/1)

We have been in discussion with management over the pay progression received by Duty managers. This was reported to the GGC who have decided the following: -

“That we note the proposals put forward by LUL on this issue and conduct a referendum of our members with a recommendation to reject them”

We are in the process of identifying the members covered by these discussions and will commence the referendum shortly. Branches will be kept advised.

LUL Machinery Of Negotiation And Consultancy (LUL/0005)

Meetings were held with management to discuss the above and the GGC have made the following decision: -

“That we note the correspondence from LUL and instruct our negotiators to seek a machinery of negotiation across LUL and Ex Metronet that gives equal and effective representation for all members. Members are entitled to a local representative and levels of representation must reflect the numbers in each trade union locally and companywide, according to centrally agreed principles. In the meantime we expect LUL to allow full representation of all members including upholding of the ex Metronet arrangements.”

I shall keep branches advised of developments in this matter.
