Trainpeople Workers Ballot For Strike

TUBE UNION RMT said today that it is to ballot all staff working on London Underground’s “Trainpeople” agency contract for strike action over the termination of a deal which will dump dozens of staff on the dole and which makes a mockery of regulations which were supposed to protect the employment rights of agency staff.

Today, RMT London Underground “Trainpeople” staff – who face the prospect of dismissal this week - are taking their demo right to the heart of the company that treated them so appallingly this Tuesday.

33 RMT Members Sacked by Trainpeople Agency
On the 19th December 2012, all 33 Trainpeople agency staff working on the Wembley Central group received an early Christmas present. Trainpeople informed them that their contract with London Underground would be terminated on the 16th January, with no further work on the stations after that. This allowed them only four weeks to find new jobs over Christmas, some had worked on stations for over five years.

“Agency staff should be brought back in house and paid the rate for the job. It is intolerable that staff wearing LU uniform and doing the same job as other staff on the network have not got identical terms and conditions. We must rid our industry of the exploitative agency companies”. John Reid LTRC Secretary.

Bakerloo detrainment dispute - important points for drivers.

Industrial action for a safer detrainment procedure on the Bakerloo starts Tuesday 15th of January until further notice. All trains going into sidings or depots should be physically detrained to ensure no overcarries.

Some important points to remember:

• Always be in the correct position at the correct time for your pick up.

• If you are the relieving driver, inform the driver you are relieving that you will be physically detraining as per industrial action to ensure no overcarries.

RMT & ASLEF Joint Action For Passenger Safety

We note that further discussions have taken place to arrange synchronisation with ASLEF for the Bakerloo line action. We therefore instruct the General Secretary to cancel our industrial action on the Bakerloo line only starting at 00:01 on Thursday 10 January and to begin the action instead at 00:01 on Tuesday 15 January. The industrial action remains the same as in our previous instruction and is to run until further notice; and the timing of the industrial action on the Central line remains unchanged.

RMT names new date for action for safety - Bakerloo detrainment dispute

The RMT's planned Industrial action that was due to take place on Thursday 10th January 2013 has now been revised, so action can be co-ordinated with ASLEF on the Bakerloo Line. A joint notice with ASLEF has been produced and can be downloaded (see the attachment).

Members are instructed to disregard my previous instruction to take industrial action from Thursday 10th January 2013 and should instead take the following industrial action short of a strike:-

Tube Drivers Take Action For Passengers Safety

Bakerloo and Central line drivers to take action over “detrainment” carriage checking

Following a substantial ballot in favour of taking industrial action over London Underground’s removal of detrainment staff, leaving Bakerloo and Central Line drivers to take trains into depots and sidings without staff on hand physically checking that all passengers are off the train, tube union RMT has agreed to call the following industrial action short of a strike:-

Agency workers betrayed

On Wednesday19th December all 33 agency staff working on the Wembley Central group received an early Christmas present. They were informed by the company they work for, Trainspeople, that their contract with London Underground would be terminated on the 16th January and there would be no more work for them on stations after that. That’s just four weeks for people to find new jobs over the Christmas period. Some of these guys had worked on stations for over five years.

World Aids Day 2012

International Transport Federation recognises RMT union as the only union in the uk to play a role in activities centered around world aids day in its HIV AIDS bulliten dec 2012.

Activists in the bakerloo branch received information, posters and stickers based on a campaign led by the ITF to get to zero in the month leading up to world aids day (1st dec 2012)

“World AIDS Day this year is about being a ‘change agent: Getting to Zero’ – that is
zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS related deaths.”
