Tube Job Cut Plans Will Hit Every Equalities Group

Fit For the Future – Stations will hit every stations worker with pay cuts, displacements, reduced work-life balance, etc. But its proposals will affect women, black and ethnic minority, LGBT, older, younger and disabled people in specific ways.

LU is obliged by law to assess what the impact on equalities groups will be. But LU has carried out a shabby and inadequate assessment. RMT and other unions’ reps have met LU about these issues in the last few weeks; management has revealed that it does not treat its obligation towards equalities groups seriously.

Fighting Homophobia RMT Poster

Please find enclosed some copies of the Fighting Homophobia poster. A wrist band has been produced to accompany the campaign and a couple are also enclosed.

This opportunity can be taken to remind all members that an object of the Union is “to oppose actively all forms of harassment, prejudice and unfair discrimination”. The poster provides a simple symbol for our zero tolerance to discrimination.

RMT Protests At Lithuanian Embassy Against Anti Gay Law Proposals

The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) and African LGBT Out and Proud Diamond Group protesting outside the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania - 27th Nov 2013.

The RMT is alarmed by reports of rising hostility towards Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) rights in Lithuania, and of attempts to introduce proposals to Parliament that attack the rights of Lithuania’s LGBT citizens.

We strongly oppose the proposals to:

  • ban gender reassignment
  • give legal protection to ‘criticism of homosexuality’ ie. anti-LGBT speech
