Station Familiarisations for SRT Staff

From Stations and Revenue Health & Safety Council

This matter has been referred by your local representives Kenton and Eliza to the Stations and Revenue Safety Council.

Having read the work stream diary that has been created for you all, I am extremely concerned that the amount of time you are being given to get familiarised is totally unrealistic. For example, having spoken to roistered supervisors at various locations, Bank takes a min of 3 days but staff are only being allotted 1 day.

Remember, you must, under both LUL standard and the law be able, without thinking about it , Name RVP point and SAP point and alternatives, All station exits and entrances, and any additional exit points, intervention points, switchable signage, call points, section ahead and rear plungers isolation of utilities plus dozens of other things. You must also be able to fully understand your personal role in an emergency for each location within the station you are working in. For example at bank, there are approx 17 areas a CSA could work in-you would need to know your role in an emergency in all 17 locations.

Can we therefore advise you the following.

  1. Unlike what has been suggested by several managers, there is NO separate “SRT” Familiarisation plan. If you are a SRT CSA then you must be familiarised to the EXACT standard of a roistered CSA at that station.
  2. When you are being asked to sign the Certificate, you are confirming that you are fully competent in the understanding of how that station works, both in normal, de-graded and emergency situations and where everything is. This will be used against you in the event of an incident.

Do not sign if you are not happy. You are well within your rights to do this

  1. Do not feel rushed or pressurised into rushing your familiarisation- You are well within your rights to ask as many questions as you wish until you are happy.
  2. Even if you have been familiarised using the proper CSA plan, do not feel pressured to do dozens of them. The other problem that we are dealing with is that there is too much of an information overload. Nobody, no matter how smart could be asked to learn 19 Central London stations and then remember, perfectly, all the relevant information.

This matter is being actively pursued by this council and we will update you asap. If you need any guidance, don’t hesitate to ask
