Solidarity Greetings from RMT East London Rail branch

Comrades, brothers, and sisters.

Fraternal greetings.

East London Rail Branch RMT salutes the stand being taken by you, our comrades, across the London Transport network tonight in your struggle against bullying management, pay cuts, and job-losses.

This Branch notes that in these times of recession, all workers are being told we must ‘tighten our belts’; we also note the stark - and frankly stinking - hypocrisy of your management, who like so many others, believe this does not apply to them.

The fact that ordinary workers have the temerity to demand more than 0.5% for five years at a time when the top 100 LUL/ TfL managers’ pay bill is over £10,000,000 per annum highlights the clear blue water between those responsible for this recession, and those being asked to pay for it.

We condemn this hypocrisy as we condemn the harassing and bullying tactics of those who believe they can manage without the RMT and the good-will of the staff.

Your massive turn-out in the strike ballot and resolve you showed, and continue to show, demonstrates the way to not only confront the actions of this management, but, in confronting them, to overcome them.

We stand along side you in your struggle. The RMT is at the forefront of protecting the working class from the current spate of bosses’ attacks, and you in London Transport are currently the vanguard of this struggle.

Stand firm comrades. In 48 hours you will win a victory that will shine like a beacon on our class.

For and on behalf of the committee and members, East London Rail Branch;

Glenn Wallis - Chair Ed Shine - Secretary
