RMT to re-ballot Night Tube lines

To All LUL NIGHT TUBE LINES TRAIN OPERATORS

Our Ref: LUL/2/3

19th November 2021

Dear Colleague

RMT TO RE-BALLOT ALL LUL NIGHT TUBE LINES TRAIN OPERATORS DUE TO ANTI-TRADE UNION LAWS

IMPOSITION OF NIGHT TUBE DUTIES, TRAIN OPERATORS - LONDON UNDERGROUND

Further to my previous correspondence with regards to our dispute with LUL over their abolition of the Night Tube Train Operators Grade and subsequent imposition of Night Tube duties, industrial action has been called using our existing ballot mandate. Despite the initial progress that was made at the ACAS talks LUL have subsequently declined further talks at ACAS and instead are seeking to impose Night Tube duties on WTTs and rosters.

This dispute has been ongoing for nearly 6 months and your strength, unity and determination has been incredible throughout. However, there have been very cynical additions made in the 2016 Trade Union Act which put even greater restrictions on workers taking industrial action. These restrictions are some of the most draconian in Europe.

One of the consequences of the new laws is that all ballots held after March 2017 are only valid for a six-month period from the date they close. It does not matter whether the dispute is ongoing or industrial action is being taken. It takes no notice of the fact that you are continuing this principled fight.

Therefore, we have no choice but to conduct another ballot and get a fresh mandate from members and your Union is asking you to return a magnificent 'YES' vote as you did in the previous ballot.

On Monday 22nd November 2021 the Independent Scrutineer Civica will send a ballot paper to your home address and the ballot will close on Thursday 20th December 2021.

I urge you to keep up the magnificent support for your Union and vote 'YES' for strike action in the forthcoming ballot. Due to the anti-trade union laws, now more than ever, it is massively important to get a big turnout and a strong vote in favour of action.

USE YOUR VOTE - VOTE 'YES' FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION

Yours sincerely,

Michael Lynch
