RMT names new date for action for safety - Bakerloo detrainment dispute

The RMT's planned Industrial action that was due to take place on Thursday 10th January 2013 has now been revised, so action can be co-ordinated with ASLEF on the Bakerloo Line. A joint notice with ASLEF has been produced and can be downloaded (see the attachment).

Members are instructed to disregard my previous instruction to take industrial action from Thursday 10th January 2013 and should instead take the following industrial action short of a strike:-

With effect from 00:01 hours on Tuesday 15th January 2013 until further notice, all RMT Train Operators and Instructor Operator members on the Bakerloo are instructed to ensure that the carriages on their trains are physically checked and clear of passengers prior to going into sidings or depots. This is to be done either by appropriately-licensed LUL staff or by drivers themselves.

The RMT's position is very clear; we demand that staff carry out physical checking of trains being taken out of service. Drivers have experienced verbal abuse, and it is only a matter of time before a driver is physically assaulted.

All members are urges to fully support this action, to show management that we will not accept these unsafe practices, which is yet another move towards automation of the train service and a further attack on jobs, which has led to the removal of station staff posts and deskilling of staff.
