This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

RMT to Fight for Justice for Jayesh

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

Following our previous decision of 22 June, we are appalled that London Underground has upheld the unjust downgrading of Jayesh Patel at appeal.
We note the resolution from our Bakerloo branch, and applaud the willingness of our Bakerloo train driver members to take strike action to reverse this downgrading.

We therefore instruct the General Secretary to:
• urgently submit a request for a Director’s Review of this case
• should this not result in an acceptable outcome (ie. the return of Jayesh to his driver’s job), to refer the case to ACAS
• should this not result in an acceptable outcome, to refer the case to a meeting of himself and the Managing Director of London Underground
• ensure that the above actions are taken promptly
• immediately begin preparations for a ballot of all Bakerloo line driver members for strike action, with the ballot to be enacted immediately should all the above steps not result in an acceptable outcome
• send a personal letter by post to all Bakerloo driver members outlining the injustice of this case and the stance of this union
London Transport Regional Council and relevant branches to be advised.
