DEFENDING JOBS & AGREEMENTS - LONDON UNDERGROUND (LUL/14/2)
All LUL members have solidly supported the long-running dispute to ensure that jobs are protected by demanding that LUL provide assurances that there will be no reduction in headcount, no changes to terms and conditions or to the employer without agreement and that all vacancies are filled immediately.
Earlier this year, LUL presented proposals to Train Operator members to move to a 4-day week in return for huge productivity savings from members. The Union conducted a referendum which resulted in an overwhelming majority of Train Operator members voting to reject these proposals.
Since this time, LUL has moved forward with its proposals to introduce a 4-day week for Train Operators. Doing so will of course involve various changes to our Train Operator members' terms and conditions and our agreements with the Company.
The National Executive Committee has taken the decision to convene a meeting of all LUL Stations and Trains Lead Reps to devise a fighting campaign to defend RMT Train Operator members against this attack on our hard-earned terms and conditions. The Union will not stand by and watch the Company make agreements with other entities that could then be imposed on our members. This is a clear attack on our collective agreements and will be met with the full force of our industrial, political and dynamic strength.
As always, RMT remains available for talks regarding this matter and the NEC has also noted that the Company has agreed to meet RMT in a dispute resolution meeting regarding the proposals for Train Operators. I will of course keep Branches advised of all further developments.
