COLLECTIVE GRIEVANCE - NON-ATTENDANCE TO WORK DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS

We the under-named submit this collective grievance arising from our inability to attend work on Monday 2 February due to adverse weather conditions.

We were all physically unable to attend work, as our normal travel arrangements were not available to us due to the heavy snow and no alternatives were available either. We were appalled to hear of LUL's guidance notes, which imply that we must lose either a day's wages or a day's leave because of this. We believe that Monday's absence should be considered as special leave paid.

This was not a day's holiday for us, but a day on which we tried to get to work but could not.

This situation arose through no fault of our own. We all made every effort to attend work, but were simply unable to do so. We should not be penalised for this.

LUL's guidance advised us to attend our nearest London Underground station if we could not reach our own workplace. However, this guidance was only issued on Monday afternoon, so there is no way we could have known of it on Monday morning. Further, it was impossible to attend our nearest Underground station, as we needed to use buses, trains or road travel to do so, and these options were not available to us.

In an unprecedented move, TfL cancelled all bus services in London on Monday, leaving us unable to attend work. It is totally unacceptable that LUL - a subsidiary of TfL - should then penalise us for inability to attend work brought about by its own withdrawal of transport services!
