The RMT is supporting the lobby of the Labour Party Conference on Sunday 27th September for jobs, education and peace sponsored by a coalition of trade unions and pressure groups including UCU, PCS, NUT, NUJ, Right to Work, Stop the War and Unite Against Fascism. I would urge RMT members to attend this key rally to demand a change of direction over proposals to cut public expenditure.

Burston Strike School Rally

Venue: Church Green, Burston, near Diss, Norfolk

Bob Crow writes ...

I would like to encourage all activists to attend this year’s commemoration of the Burston Strike School. The RMT wishes to have as large a presence as possible at this important event in the trade union calendar.

We will commemorate the longest strike in history, and celebrate the people who continue to fight for trade union rights, working class education, democracy in the countryside, and international solidarity.

Hope Not Hate - Stop the BNP Poster Campaign

Your help can stop the BNPs national billboard campaign.

Clear Channel – an outdoor advertising agency – have sold the BNP adverts on billboards across the country – they’re financially profiting from the BNP’s vicious campaign.

We are asking all our supporters to send a message to Clear Channel – demanding that they take down the BNP’s racist propaganda.

After you send your letter we will keep you up to date with details about this and other campaigns.

RMT to protest at Israeli Embassy in support of sacked Arab rail workers

MEMBERS OF Britain’s largest rail union, RMT, will be taking a protest over the dismissal of 40 Israeli Arab rail workers to the steps of the Israeli Embassy at 1pm on Monday 11th May.

The protest will draw attention to the decision of Israel Railways to change its employment terms so that only Israeli army veterans will now be employed as lookouts at level crossings to prevent collisions between trains and vehicles. The current Arab workforce are exempt from national service and as a consequence have now been handed redundancy notices by Israel Railways.

Resolution: Death at G20 Protests

Stratford no.1 branch has passed this resolution and submitted it for discussion at the April meeting of the Regional Council.

This branch / Regional Council regrets the violent circumstances surrounding the death of newspaper seller Ian Tomlinson at the G20 demonstrations. This unfortunate individual, guilty of nothing more than being in the wrong place at the wrong time, was known to many of our members at Bank/Monument station. We send our condolences to his friends and family and call for legal action against those individuals responsible for his death.

Defend rail and tube jobs services: national rally and lobby of parliament for a publicly owned people’s railway, Tuesday May 5

From Bob Crow

Dear Colleague,

Rail bosses are using the recession as an excuse to attack jobs and conditions and cut back on services and essential rail works. Thousands of jobs are being threatened or have been lost. At the same time rail fat cats are raking in big profits and bonuses on the back of the most expensive fares in Europe. Make no mistake: as the recession worsens so will the attack on rail workers and rail services.
