RMT calls for talks with London Mayor Sadiq Khan

RMT calls for urgent meeting with Mayor Sadiq Khan on tube, rail and taxis.

London's main transport union RMT  today called for urgent talks with newly elected Mayor Sadiq Khan to discuss a wide range of issues that the union says pose the biggest collective threat to transport services in the Capital since the Blitz.

Further to my previous Circular (IR/0051/16, 3rd March 2016), the contents of the resolution I reported to you has highlighted that our members’ concerns and the impact on the machinery of negotiation as a result of “Fit for the Future – Stations” remain very much in evidence. Therefore, the matter was again subject to consideration by your National Executive Committee, which has reiterated this union’s opposition to the concept of Fit for the Future, which the NEC notes has so far resulted in:

Piccadilly dispute update

Further to my letter dated 14th April and as you will be aware, discussions at ACAS have been taking place in an effort to make progress over the issues affecting Train Operator and Instructor Operator members on the Piccadilly Line. It has now been agreed that local level meetings will take place to identify outstanding issues and agree the most appropriate forums for these matters to be addressed.
 

Northfields depot members to be balloted over disproportionate disciplinary action

I recently received the following resolution from our LU Fleet Branch:
 
“Unjustified disciplinary action was taken against members at Northfields Depot after a shunting incident where a signal was passed at danger.

“This Branch notes the appalling attacks that have been public made by Conservative Mayoral candidate Zak Goldsmith against tube workers. This includes a threat to withdraw the long held travel passes for staff family members. Whoever is Mayor, we will not accept any attack on our terms and conditions.

National Insurance contributions increase

Dear Colleagues,

TFL PENSION FUND – CONTRACTING-OUT PROPOSALS

As a result of Government legislation Defined Benefit (Final Salary) pension schemes, such as the TfL Pension Fund, are no longer able to contract-out of the State Second Pension. As from 6th April 2016 both members and employers will see their National Insurance Contributions (NIC) increase by 1.4% and 3.4% respectively as the rebate associated to contracting-out is abolished.

TFL pension fund - 2015 triennial actuarial valuation

TFL PENSION FUND - 2015 TRIENNIAL ACTUARIAL VALUATION

Following the 2015 triennial actuarial valuation of the TfL Pension Fund the results reveal a deficit of £396 million with a funding level of 95%. This is a significant improvement on the previous valuation carried out in 2012 which revealed a deficit of £699 million (funding level of 89%).
