RMT demands closure of Ealing Broadway station over asbestos warning

TUBE UNION RMT today demanded the closure of Ealing Broadway station and urgent reassurances to staff after an asbestos alarm was raised by union reps.

Over the weekend there was a major incident at Ealing Broadway station when roof tiles, containing asbestos, fell on the platform. London Underground staff , unaware they contained asbestos , assisted in the clearing up . RMT says that it is not the first time that this has happened.

Tube union RMT  today confirmed that there have been no further talks and 24 hours of strike action goes ahead from nine o’clock tonight by nearly 400 train operators across the Piccadilly Line over a comprehensive breakdown in industrial relations combining a range of issues. No services will be running.

85% voted for strike action with an even larger number voting for action short of a strike.

RMT has condemned the decision by Transport for London to hand the busy London Overground service over to failing rail privateer Arriva, a subsidiary of the German state railway Deutsche Bahn.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said that it was ludicrous to hand LOROL services over to the German state as Arriva have just had their contract for the Tyne and Wear Metro ripped up with that service being taken into direct public control from April next year.

Piccadilly Line drivers vote for strike action

Overwhelming strike vote on Piccadilly Line over comprehensive breakdown in industrial relations.

An RMT ballot of nearly 400 train operators across the Piccadilly Line for both strike action and action short of a strike over a comprehensive breakdown in industrial relations combining a range of issues has recorded massive votes in favour.

85% voted for strike action with an even larger number voting for action short of a strike.

The result will now be considered by the union’s executive.

Tube members vote to accept Pay and Night Tube offer

Tube union RMT has confirmed today that a referendum ballot of members across London Underground over the most recent offer from the company on pay and night tube has recorded an overwhelming vote for acceptance.

The ballot recorded a vote of  84 % in favour.

General Secretary Mick Cash said:

“I want to pay tribute to RMT’s members across London Underground who have stood rock solid throughout the long campaign of industrial pressure to secure a fair deal from the company over pay and night tube operation.
