RMT Defends NHS

RMT Council of Executives decision: We note the resolution [from London Transport Regional Council] and tthat we are already affiliated to the Health Emergency campaign and that our policies are clearly in support of defending the NHS. We continue to work with broad based movements to defend the NHS and reiterate our support for the founding principles of the NHS and reiterate our policy of opposing the privatisation of the NHS. The General Secretary to obtain appropriate literature to enable Branches and Regional Councils to support campaigning to defend the NHS.

RMT Defends Housing Benefit for Under-25s

Responding to a resolution from the LGBT Advisory Committee, RMT's Council of Executives has made this decision: We note that this is already Union policy and this horrendous attack on under 25s is part of this rotten Government's attacks on working people and noting that our LGBT members feel under further attack as many of them are trapped in circumstances where they are afraid to 'come out', which causes them more problems. The General Secretary is instructed to write to the TUC explaining our position and we are already campaigning with other groups eg.

RMT to Fight 'Gay Cure' Organisations

RMT Council of Executives decision:

We note the item from the LGBT Advisory Committee and we instruct the General Secretary to:

  1. Support campaigns against anti-gay organisations that fraudulently and harmfully claim they are able to ‘cure’ homosexuality.
  2. Support and mobilise for appropriate protest actions on this issue to bring the fake business of ‘reparative therapy’ to an end.

Update: RMT and TSSA discussions

RMT Council of Executives decision, 22 November: That we have received the letter from TSSA who have stated that they do not see the federation as a stepping stone towards a merger between our unions.

The General Secretary is to write to TSSA and reaffirm our position that we want one industrial union in the Transport Industry and our door is open for talks with the TSSA to achieve part of this aim.

The letter and the letter from TSSA to be sent to all Branches and Regional Councils.

RMT Suspends Tube Lines Strike Action As Lu Cancels Scheduled Engineering Works

TUBE UNION RMT confirmed today that industrial action involving Tube Lines staff, due to begin tomorrow, has been suspended after LU management took the unprecedented step of cancelling scheduled weekend engineering works in response to the success of previous rounds of RMT Tube Lines strike action.

RMT General Secretary Bob Crow said:

Tube Lines Industrial Action For This Week Cancelled

That we note the report on file from the lead officer stating that all planned engineering work scheduled to take place during our proposed strike action is now cancelled.

Further, we note a mass meeting of our affected members is to take place tonight, Wednesday 21st November 2012 at which the assistant General Secretary will be in attendance.

Therefore, we instruct the General Secretary to suspend all strike action planned to take place on or after 0600hrs on Friday 23rd November 2012 and 0559hrs Saturday 24th November 2012.

Parliamentary Debate On Thameslink Siemens Deal As Contract Descends Into Chaos 18 Months On

Derby MP and RMT Parliamentary Group Member Chis Williamson has secured a Commons debate on the Thameslink and Crossrail fleet procurement contracts this afternoon as rumours persist that Government officials are now looking at an alternative on the Thameslink deal which is no closer to sign-off and is clearly riddled with serious contamination 18 months on.
