Machinery of negotiation

London Underground 'Business Update' Meetings

We note the report and materials from the ‘Business Update’ meeting with the Managing Director of London Underground Ltd.

We also note that our agreed machinery of negotiation with LUL includes in paragraph 5 the provision that ‘a London Underground Briefing Forum will meet as and when appropriate to provide a forum for consultation on strategic issues relating to the performance, plans and objectives of London Underground’.

RMT Appalled By Tube Bosses Plan To Circumvent Agreed Negotiation Avenues

We note the correspondence from London Underground Ltd, and additionally the report from our representative and from our Regional Organiser.

We are appalled that LUL is attempting to circumvent our agreed machinery of negotiation through its ‘Engagement’ meetings. We believe that this will not encourage a more constructive working relationship and involvement as the company claims, but will reduce trust and remove important issues from our agreed, transparent and formal process.

We endorse the General Secretary’s instruction to our representatives not to attend these meetings.

L1 reps Should Speak to SFC rep Before attending Ad-Hoc or Informal Meeting Re:Future Stations Plans

RMT Stations Functional Council (SFC) reps have become aware that some L1 Reps on at least two lines have been asked to attend meetings with local and line managers to discuss LU's plans for the future organisation of station staffing.

There has been no formal consultation at any level over this issue and it is a clear breech of our agreed machinery of negotiation for LU to take the matter staright to L1.
