Tube strike called on 15th of March

TO ALL RMT LONDON UNDERGROUND MEMBERS

Our Ref: LUL/14/2

28th February 2023

Dear Colleagues,

DEFENDING JOBS, PENSIONS & AGREEMENTS – LONDON UNDERGROUND

LONDON UNDERGROUND STRIKE ACTION CALLED

Last week, I wrote to LUL over its continued failure to provide any kind of commitments regarding the 3 simple assurances we are seeking to protect your pensions, jobs and terms and conditions. The Company continues its damaging cuts across the network, which has resulted in you and your colleagues taking industrial action and I stated clearly that unless our demands are met, RMT will have no choice but to take further strike action.

Today, the National Executive Committee considered a report from your Lead Officer giving an update on the dispute and it has taken the decision to call on ALL LUL MEMBERS TO TAKE STRIKE ACTION. You are instructed NOT TO BOOK ON for any shifts that commence between:-

  • 00:01 hours and 23:59 hours on Wednesday 15th March 2023

While noting that the deadline for TfL and the Government to reach an agreement over pension reform has been extended again to 17th March, this does nothing to resolve our dispute and no assurances have been given that pension reform will not be implemented. In addition, cuts programmes across Trains and three Asset Performance Functions have been initiated by LUL, including the threat to displace members into lower paid roles with only temporary protection of earnings. This is a significant step in LUL’s cuts programme and RMT has demanded that the issue is urgently referred to the LU Company Council.

Your RMT Reps have reported overwhelming support for this strike action in furtherance of our dispute and your Reps will also be attending a meeting later this week to consider further industrial action beyond the 15th March. I urge you all to stand firm together during this strike which is in conjunction with strike action by ASLE&F on LUL on the same day.

UNITY IS STRENGTH – SUPPORT THE ACTION

I will keep you advised of all further developments.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
