Train driver numbers to be slashed again

Hot on the heels of the ASLEF/LUL 2009 Agreement which saw driver numbers slashed with spare turns and pool staff decimated comes the next round of attacks on the grade.

London Underground are now axing even more drivers when the next timetable changes are introduced across the combine.

The Bakerloo will see another 6 drivers slashed from the establishment with 27 lost across the whole of the combine. Woe betide any driver who has to go up in front of management for whatever reason, as with the last round of ASLEF/LUL cuts, summary dismissals and redeployment will be the norm as LU cut costs on the cheap.

"Rostered Team Talk", a facility for drivers to be given safety briefings etc, will be withdrawn from all rosters. How drivers will get briefings under these new proposals is not clear especially as the timetables and duties will be hard wired to maximise as much driving time as possible out of the new rosters.

This is another clear example that drivers are in the firing line with all other grades as LU go to attack jobs and conditions on the Tube.

Below is a synopsis of the changes from LU's duty schedules department:

Bakerloo Line WTT 37 will be introduced from 12th December 2010. There will be minor alterations to the train service early mornings and evenings as a result of London Overground timetable changes. Rostered Team Talk will be withdrawn. Initial estimated rostered Train Operator establishment changes are ELE -4, QPK -2.

Victoria Line WTT 32 will be re-introduced from 3rd October 2010. New duty schedules and rotas will be issued incorporating revised walking times and minimum meal relief times at Brixton. Rostered Team Talk will be withdrawn. Estimated rostered Train Operator establishment changes are SVS +9, BRX -2.

Circle and Hammersmith Line WTT 24 will be introduced from 12th December 2010. There will be minor alterations to the train service in connection with the temporary closure of Triangle Sidings and the opening of Lillie Bridge Depot. Rostered Team Talk will be withdrawn. Estimated rostered Train Operator establishment changes are ERD -5 with no change at other depots.

District Line WTT 139 will be introduced from 12th December 2010. There will be minor alterations to the train service in connection with the temporary closure of Triangle Sidings and the opening of Lillie Bridge Depot. Rostered Team Talk will be withdrawn. Estimated rostered Train Operator establishment changes are ECT -6, ACTD -1 with no change at other depots.

Metropolitan Line WTT 329 will be introduced from 12th December 2010. The Chesham shuttle train will be withdrawn and replaced by diverting existing Amersham trains (or Watford trains during late evenings). Up to 17 trains will be nominated to be S stock workings crewed by Neasden and Harrow on the Hill only. As a result of the withdrawal of the Chesham shuttle there will be a reduction in Train Operator establishments. All Wembley Park crew changes and meal reliefs will be moved to Harrow on the Hill and consequently a number of Train Operator positions will also move from Neasden to Harrow. Estimated rostered Train Operator establishment changes are RKY -8, NEA -30, HOH +28.

Piccadilly Line WTT 47 will be introduced from 12th December 2010. There will be minor alterations to the train service as a result of Metropolitan and District line timetable changes.
