RMT Pushes For Above Inflation Pay Rise, Olympic Bonus, Improved Pensions and Better Benefits For Initial Cleaners

We note the report from our Regional Organiser, and welcome his actions in tabling a claim for an above-inflation pay rise, free travel passes, a full sick pay scheme, improved pensions and an Olympics bonus. We agree to his recommendation that should Initial not respond positively to the Olympics claim within 7 days and the other claims within 14 days, we intend to declare this union in dispute with this company in line with the wishes of our representatives.

We reiterate our stance that Olympics bonuses should be an across-the-board cash sum for all grades. We also believe that cleaners will be affected at least as much as other transport workers by the Olympics and should therefore receive bonuses similar to those of other transport workers.

We instruct the General Secretary to:

  • Place Initial’s response to our Olympics claim in front of us when received, and in any case by 4 April.
  • Place Initial’s response to our other claims in front of us when received, and in any case by 11 April.
  • Include an article in RMT News about the scandal of cleaners’ low pay and poor working conditions, in particular highlighting the impact of the Olympic Games on them and the apparent unwillingness of cleaning contractors to adequately reward them.
  • Rename this file RATES OF PAY & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2011 – INITIAL (LU CONTRACT)
  • Link this file to the file LUL/22/2 OLYMPIC RECOGNITION AND REWARD – TRANSPORT FOR LONDON.
