RMT Olympic Deal - First Capital Connect

OLYMPIC RECOGNITION & REWARD – FIRST CAPITAL CONNECT

I have now received a formal offer from First Capital Connect in respect to working during the London Olympics. The offer is as follows:

Customer Services (Stations and Revenue Protection)

There will be a requirement for staff to work significantly altered shift times from normal shift times. Staff will have additional responsibility for management of increased passenger volumes on and off stations. In recognising these changes, a payment will be made of £28 per shift in addition to normal pay during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Where staff work an additional Sunday or rest day turn of duty, then the additional £28 payment will also be made. These payments would be made after the conclusion of the Games and entered through the paybill in time for the October bank transfer. Specifically these payments would be made to staff at the following locations which include designated Olympic interchange points* on the FCC network:

*Blackfriars
City Thameslink
*Farringdon
Moorgate
*St Pancras
*Kings Cross
West Hampstead
Luton Airport Parkway
Finsbury Park
Highbury & Islington
Alexandra Palace (Olympic Games period only)

Customer Services and Revenue Protection staff at all other locations

All Customer Services and Revenue Protection staff at locations other than those detailed above would receive a lump sum payment of £350.

This payment is dependent upon attendance at work during the periods of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. In the event of non attendance on rostered turns forming the basic working week then a pro-rata deduction would be made from the lump sum. For clarity, non attendance would include leave and sickness absence. These payments would be made after the conclusion of the Games and entered through the paybill in time for the October bank transfer.

Engineering

All Engineering maintenance staff would receive a lump sum payment of £500 in recognition of the additional attention that will require to be given to units both in service and out of service and during this period.

Train Presentation

All Train Presentation staff a lump sum payment of £500 in recognition of the increased cleaning that will be necessary during this period.

It is proposed to suspend training and staff representative activities to maximise the availability of staff. The General Grades Committee has considered this matter and has taken the following decision:

“That we note the correspondence on file including the final offer from the company and the report from the Regional Organiser and the fact that our Company Council reps have unanimously recommended acceptance of the offer with the view that it meets our members’ aspirations.

We therefore instruct the General Secretary to write to the company advising them of our acceptance of the offer. Further the General Secretary is instructed to write a personal letter to our members informing them of this agreement.

Finally, and in line with our regional organiser’s report, we note the thanks recorded by the Regional Organiser to the Company Council reps for their effort and support in regard to this successful outcome. Branches and Regional Councils to be advised.”

The company has been informed of our acceptance of this offer and I would be obliged if you will bring this to the attention of your members.
