Review of the UK Domestic Drivers' Hours Rules

busThe Department of Transport launched a consultation on the review of Domestic Drivers' Hours Rules. The rules, first introduced in the 1930s and largely unchanged since the 1960s, cover issues including maximum driving time, breaks, rest time, daily and weekly rest, record keeping and enforcement.

The consultation document can be found on the DfT website at

The RMT will be responding to the consultation, which closes on 13th October 2009. You are invited to send comments on the document to Sean Geoghegan at Unity House at

The Bosses are sure to seek a relaxation to the rules in order to increase the workload for drivers so make sure you have your say!

A demonstration is due to take place outside the Department for Transport in London on October 12th 2009 when the RMT submission to the review consultation will be handed in.
