What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

Opposing Stations Cuts

Having received information that the ‘Together for Transport’ Campaign is holding a public meeting in Hackney on Monday 12th December 2011, RMT's General Grades Committee took the following decision:

That we note that a special meeting is being organised in Hackney to oppose cuts to ticket offices and ticket office staff at local stations on the North London line. We welcome this community initiative and we instruct the General Secretary to advertise this meeting widely amongst our Branches and activists in London via SMS text and by e-mail.

We also note that a meeting of our Staff Our Stations campaign group is scheduled to take place on Monday 12th December 2011 at which RMT’s participations in this meeting can be discussed with our sister union TSSA.

We further note the TSSA’s General Secretary has written to the RMT asking us to co-sponsor the Together for Transport campaign. We await a report from our Council of Executives on this matter.

Branches and Regional Councils to be informed.
