Women

Still a minority in a tradtionally male-dominated industry, RMT women are organising against sexism and for our issues to be heard

Resolution: Support Sindyanna

Stratford no.1 branch is submitting this resolution to RMT Women's Conference:

RESOLUTION TO RMT WOMEN’S CONFERENCE: SINDYANNA

We support the work of Sindyanna, the women workers’ cooperative associated with the Workers’ Advice Centre (Maan) in Galilee.

We ask the union to promote its activities and products, and to investigate the possibilities of including Sindyanna products carrying the RMT logo in the union’s range of merchandise.

Equal Pay

RMT Council of Executives decision:

That we instruct all Lead Officers to raise the issue of equal pay audits with the companies they deal with. We note that only the companies have access to the information necessary to conduct an equal pay audit. Companies must be asked to share the findings of their audits with us.

RMT to Draw Up Women's Training Plan

Council of Executives decision:

That we note the resolution from the Women’s Advisory Committee and instruct the General Secretary to produce a draft syllabus for a two day women’s course. This to be drawn up with the advice of the Women’s Advisory Committee but the final syllabus to be endorsed by the Council of Executives when it is happy with its contents. Applicants for these courses will be put to Branches and Regional Councils and placed in front of the Organisation, Training & Education Sub-Committee.

RMT Survey Leads to Campaign against Sexism at Work

Last year, RMT carried out a survey of women members about sexism at work. The results will be posted here soon, and contained many positive suggestions for challenging sexism - which was the purpose of the survey.

RMT Council of Executives decision:

That we note the survey and ask the NWAC how best to take the campaign forward and what format workshops should take. Finally, the Council of Executives to endorse once they are happy with the way forward to have one day courses or special Regional Council meetings on this subject.

Resolution to TUC Women's Conference - Railway Staff Cuts

RMT's Council of Executives has agreed to submit this resolution to TUC Women's Conference 2012:

That this Conference is concerned that Government proposals for the main line railway and the actions of London Underground in slashing staff numbers will worsen passenger services through the loss of thousands of frontline workers from trains, stations, ticket offices and safety-critical infrastructure and operational roles.

Resolution to TUC Women's Conference - Women's Rights in Afghanistan

RMT's Council of Executives has agreed to submit the following resolution to TUC Women's Conference 2012:

With the announcement that peace talks with the Taliban are contemplated, women’s rights have apparently been forgotten. The treatment of women by the Taliban government was a contravention of their human rights.
