RMT's London Transport Regional Council has submitted the following two items for inclusion on the agenda of either the union's Council of Executives or its National Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender Advisory Committee, whichever the General Secretary considers appropriate:
1. Maximum number of delegates to LGBT Conference
I am writing regarding the latest position in negotiations with LUL and TfL over pay, the 'jobs for life' deal and bullying of our members.
Talks at ACAS have broken down because management have refused to discuss pay and bullying. The 'jobs for life' deal has been discussed but despite this deal being signed off by Gordon Brown and guaranteed by John Prescott management are refusing point blank to abide by it.
We have had another Goebbels-like piece of propaganda in senior management's 'Heads Up' communiqué stating that there are now only 70 jobs at risk and there were over 250 vacancies. If this were true then management could easily guarantee everyone at least one alternative job: why then are they not prepared to do this?

Reminder Of Arrangements For The Issue Of Clip-On Sunglasses To Spectacle-Wearing Train Operators
In 2002, in order to assist spectacle-wearing Train Operators to better manage glare whilst driving, the Trains Health and Safety Council endorsed the issue of clip-on sunglasses. Arrangements were put in place for those spectacle-wearing Train Operators who wanted them, to be issued with free made-to-measure clip-on sunglasses via the Department of Optometry at City University.
This resolution, submitted by Neasden branch and seconded by the Regional Executive, was passed unanimously at the September meeting of the Regional Council.
Neasden branch submitted this resolution for discussion at the August meeting of the Regional Council. However, as the branch was unable to send delegates, the meeting decided to refer the resolution to the meeting of the Regional Council Executive on 8 September.
This resolution, submitted by Jubilee South and East London Line branch, was passed at the August Regional Council meeting.
This Branch/Regional Council is appalled, but not surprised, by the recent comments made by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, that his payment of £250k, for writing a Sunday newspaper column, was nothing more than ‘chicken feed’.
We feel this is a disgrace, considering the Mayor’s actions in intervening in the current LUL pay dispute, and also the failure to pay cleaners the London living wage.
