Britain Needs A Pay Rise: March and rally

Britain Needs A Pay Rise: March and rally in Blackpool, Saturday 19 March

The trade union movement will be in Blackpool on Saturday 19 March, to send a clear message to the Conservative party spring conference: Britain needs a pay rise!

The Trades Union Congress is organising the day of action in response to the rising cost of living whilst workers' pay is frozen and millions are hit with real terms pay cuts as inflation hits record levels.

The demo is being organised in response to:

  • Wages are standing still. They're still lower than they were in 2008, just after the crash. This is the longest period of standstill wages in 200 years.
  • Bills are rising. Soaring energy prices and higher food prices are hitting family budgets hard - just as national insurance is hiked and universal credit cut
  • Workers aren't treated with respect. A million workers are still on hated zero hours contracts. There's no action on workplace racism. And sick pay is just £96 per week.

We need as many branches and members to attend this demo as possible and the TUC have set an attendance target for unions and the RMT target is for at least 250 members to attend. I can confirm that this is a legitimate item of expenditure from branch funds to support this demo.

The meeting point for RMT Union is at 10:00am on the seafront promenade outside of The Comedy Carpet, Blackpool, FY1 1AP

Please do everything you can to support this day of action in Blackpool.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
