Train Ops Bulletin - Pay Talks - RMT ballot going ahead!

The latest RMT bulletin for drivers urges members to post your vote early. Click '1 attachment' / file name to download it. Read the text below.

VOTE EARLY - VOTE OFTEN!

It’s an old saying, often attributed to the Chicago gangster Al Capone, and of course no-one at the RMT is encouraging electoral corruption or machine-gunning ER managers; but it is crucial that you get your vote in early. The balloting period starts today – March 24th – and lasts only 2 weeks, so put an X in the box and bung it in the post immediately!

Gerry Duffy has stated that in a period of uncertainty it is crucial to have a 5 year pay deal! This is the logic of the asylum! In a period when no-one knows what disaster will be visited on us by incompetent politicians, overpaid bankers or incompetent overpaid managers it is crucial that we have a 1 year pay deal. This means that next year we can negotiate from a position of knowledge, not as now when no one can be sure what will happen in the next 5 months never mind the next 5 years.

What we are sure of is that as operational staff we are breaking all productivity records - carrying more passengers, having fewer days off and taking more revenue than ever before. A 5-year pay freeze will have knock-on effects for years to come with senior staff being worst hit – those staff retiring in 5 years time will have their final-salary pension based on an artificially low figure for the rest of their lives.

We shouldn’t have to pay for other people’s mistakes - we deserve a decent pay rise!

VOTE YES FOR STRIKE ACTION!
