What is a National Executive Committee decision?
This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.
These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.
From General Secretary Bob Crow
I write to advise branches that correspondence has been received regarding ‘Market Testing’ notices which have been issued by TfL. This matter has been now considered by the General Grades Committee which has made the following decision:
We strongly oppose this move to privatise parts of TfL, as this can only lead to fragmentation, profiteering, loss of accountability and attacks on members' jobs and conditions.
We instruct the General Secretary to:
- raise this issue urgently through the Machinery of Negotiation;
- contact the other TfL trade unions with a view to agreeing a joint approach
- seek the views on our TfL no.1 branch on how to proceed with this and to place these views in front of us within seven days.
London Transport Regional Council and branches to be advised.”
I am currently acting in accordance with the above decision and will update branches on further developments.
