RMT members were strongly supported in Parliament today when the Labour MP for Hendon, Andrew Dismore MP, used questions to the Leader of the House of Commons to wade into the Mayor and London Underground. Mr Dismore accused them of pulling the rug on the deal reached with RMT negotiators on Tuesday night which would have allowed for the tube strike to be suspended.

The MP's intervention follows the intervention by several London Labour MPs today, former Mayor Ken Livingstone and Assembly members calling for Boris Johnson to agree with direct talks with the RMT.

There has also been heavyweight union support with Unite Regional Organiser Peter Kavanagh today saying

“We have expressed our solidarity with RMT in their fight for a decent pay settlement and assurances over no compulsory redundancies. We urge management and London mayor, Boris Johnson to intervene constructively so that there will be a settlement.”

The RMT welcomes the political support and the solidarity from our fellow tube union Unite and from those which has been echoed by support from across the trade union movement proving that traditional union principles still remain strong.

Despite exaggeration from TfL, and some sections of the media, only a skeleton service is being provided today and RMT members remain solid in their support. We are still pushing for the direct, top level talks that are needed to end this dispute.
