Sick pay demand reiterated after Tube cleaners free travel victory

Dear colleague,

RMT campaign wins cleaners free travel

On Sunday the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan announced that from April next year ABM cleaners will be given the same free travel as other directly employed TfL staff. The Mayor also announced that he will instruct TfL to look at ensuring cleaners get sick pay and will review again the outsourcing contract with ABM in April 2023.

The union has welcomed this decision which is a big step forward and is a testament to RMT's tireless campaigning. We have fought long and hard for this, winning substantial support from the wider labour movement. There's no doubt that the Mayor's welcome move was a result of this accumulated pressure.

We have two tasks now.

Firstly, to take this win on free travel and put pressure on other companies across the rail network to do the same.

Secondly, we have to hold the Mayor to his words on sick pay and to build an unstoppable momentum behind the campaign to secure the insourcing of our cleaning grades on the Underground.

We will be redoubling our efforts in the coming months and building the wider campaign to win justice for cleaners and for that we need as many workers in the union as possible.

Please encourage your colleagues to join online today:

Thank you for supporting this campaign and our cleaning grades

Yours sincerely,

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
