S STOCK DISPUTE – TALKS UPDATE

Your representatives and senior LUL management met today to discuss the issues surrounding the introduction of S Stock trains.

The following items were discussed.
Prep Time – Following an agreed format of what constitutes proper safety checks before a train entering service a number of timings were done with members of both the safety and trains councils and senior management. This came out as an average of 16 minutes. Management did not like this timing, have imposed 9 minutes on the H and C and 11 minutes on the Met and are now busy trying to amend the checks that are required. This is not acceptable to the Union and we are insisting that these checks are done and that the agreed timings are adhered to.
Baker Street Cross Line working - RMT complained that Baker Street pick up and set downs were not acceptable as this is tantamount to cross line working. Not only that, the union stated that the level of training and facilities for the moves is abysmal and non existent. RMT want these duties removed from the H & C and Met Line timetables.
Training Issues – RMT complained about the quality of training on the H and C line and the fact that the training for the new stock and the handling of the new trains is nowhere near sufficient. The training package has not been properly agreed with your Union. This will lead to our members facing operational and potential disciplinary issues if this matter is not addressed. The union also stated that the use of seconded I/Op’s is totally unacceptable and must cease. The RMT made our position clear that proper job adverts should be done and the positions filled properly.
Removal of staff taxis - RMT complained that the removal of staff taxis were threatened before full discussion was held with our local reps and agreement on all sides that the proposed new facilities for night crews were up to scratch. Management agreed to reinstate these taxis including Triangle Sidings, along with Moorgate and Farringdon.
DISI – RMT complained that despite a number of discussions with LUL no agreed or complete DISI had been produced for both the Met and H and C.
Removal of Train Maintenance Depot Hammersmith – Under LU’s proposals Hammersmith & City depot would effectively become a sidings. RMT complained about the consequences for our driver members of removing this depot in the long term.
On the majority of these issues ASLEF were in agreement and informed LU that they were also in dispute.
Management agreed to take all these issues away and respond in writing.
To press management on these issues a big Yes vote will make all the difference. STOP management using the new stock to abuse driver’s rights.
