What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

Review of Industrial Disputes

RMT and London Underground agreed in May to an independent review of industrial disputes on the company. This review will be carried out by a professor of industrial relations. If reps or branches have information or views you would like to feed into this review, please email me j.booth@rmt.org.uk. RMT's General Grades Committee discussed the terms of reference of the review, and adopted the following report:

Referring to Decision Gww 14 June 2011, we have considered the draft terms of reference of the agreed review of industrial disputes between London Underground and RMT.

We have the following concerns about these terms of reference, and instruct the General Secretary to raise these with the Chair of the Review:
1. The Review proposes to cover only the period 1 June 2010 and 31 May 2011. We believe that it would be more useful to consider a longer period of time, with an earlier start date and an ‘open’ end date, so that current and new disputes can be included.
2. Some disputes that occurred within the current proposed dates are not currently included in the list of disputes, and should be.

The response of the Chair of the Review to be placed back in front of us.

Branches, representatives and the Regional Council to be advised of this decision, and that they may forward any information that they wish to be considered for input into the Review.
