APRIL’S RESOLUTIONS
- This resolution is a statement of policy which contains no proposals for action: there is therefore no indication that the Regional Council needs to do anything to implement it. However, any suggestions are welcome.
Stop Post Office Privatisation
- I have forwarded this resolution to the CWU’s Regional Council.
- I have invited the secretary of the CWU’s Regional Council to address our mass meeting.
- There is some material on our website, here - which will be added to.
- As CWU calls protest actions, we will publicise them.
- This was a resolution for submission to the national Executive / GGC. I forwarded it to the General Secretary, who ruled that it should not be placed in front of the Executve because “the GGC have already decided to reballot”. I contested this ruling both in correspondence with the GS and in discussion at the Strike Committee. LU Engineering branch has appealed to the Executive against the GS’s decision.
Where is our RMT challenge to LU/TfL?
- I forwarded this resolution to the General Secretary, who replied that the union is considering and preparing for a legal challenge but that this is a time-consuming process. I have asked for an update in time for the Regional Council meeting.
Rank and file members be heard
- This was a resolution for submission to the national Executive / GGC. I forwarded it to the General Secretary, who ruled that it should not be placed in front of the Executive because it “would breach rule as only the CofE can decide on any issue relating to a trade dispute”. I contested this ruling both in correspondence with the GS and in discussion at the Strike Committee. LU Engineering branch has appealed to the Executive against the GS’s decision.
Defend Redeployment Rights in TubeLines
- This resolution has been forwarded to the General Secretary.
- Branch Secretaries are reminded that as the last audit of branch membership lists was carried out in April, they should arrange to bring up-to-date membership lists to head office during June.
- The United Campaign Against Police Violence has been informed of the Regional Council’s decision to affiliate.
- The Regional Council Executive agreed to pay £650 for a room booking for the campaign on the understanding that the money would be refunded to us by RMT branches and other supporting bodies.
- I have subscribed to the campaign’s e-mail list so that the Regional Council can get up-to-date news.

- This resolution has been forwarded to the General Secretary, who advises that it will have to be discussed through the union’s internal staffing process.
