Notes from Regional Council Executive meeting, 12 January 2010

RECRUITMENT AND ORGANISING

  • London Overground - newsletter out now; recruitment & organising day 21 January - all welcome
  • February training workshop - being an effective level one / local representative -
    • Wednesday 10 February; Malcolm and Janine
    • Thursday 11 February Vaughan and Janine
  • 'Contact RMT' notice - now available for LUL stations and revenue; secretaries of other second-stage councils to give information to Janine to produce notices for their workplaces
  • Recruitment and organising meeting - 14:00-16:00, Tuesday 9 February ie. before Regional Council Executive - all branch secretaries and membership secretaries to attend
  • Annual report - Secretary to draft report on state of organisation of branches in the Region, as required by rule book - invite branch secretaries to submit short report on their own branch as part of this
  • Recruitment and organising plan, 2010 - Janine and Dave to draft, bring to February Regional Council Executive, circulate to branches

COUNCIL OF EXECUTIVES REPORT Olly reported on various issues. Discussion followed, including on: bus workers; LUL pay; five pound minimum; LGBT delegates. REGIONAL ORGANISER'S REPORT Steve reported on various issues, including disputes at Alstom and ex-Metronet signals. Discussion followed. MAKING GRADES COMMITTEES MORE EFFECTIVE Janine presented draft proposals. Following discussion, agreed to:

  • endorse, subject to redraft, including a few changes
  • bring back to February Regional Council Executive for submission to the Regional Council AGM
  • ask the National President to confirm that the proposals are within the union's rules.

IMPLEMENTATION OF REGIONAL COUNCIL DECISIONS

  • Defending Jobs to be standing item on Regional Council agenda until further notice
  • Janine to bring proposal for make-up of campaign committee to Regional Council

OTHER BUSINESS Cleaners - Clara's situation to be discussed with General Secretary
