Employment conditions at ABM 'of grave concern' to RMT

Subject: RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE, CLEANERS – ABM (LU CONTRACT)

That we note the resolution from the London Transport Regional Council regarding the impoverisation of our cleaner members by ABM using their super-exploitation model of employment, presided over by London Underground, TfL and the London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

For our members the ABM model of employment means; low pay, long hours, having to pay fares to travel to/from work and even during work hours, no sick pay, lack of provision of PPE and work materials and an established, distinct, ever-present dis-respect for cleaners with prevalent bullying.

Despite making many promises to improve the cleaners conditions where they could, ABM have now settled in to this exploitative model of employment, are failing to address our concerns and are stalling on agreeing collective bargaining arrangements.

The situation for our members at ABM is of grave concern to this NEC; and we instruct the General Secretary to arrange a meeting with our ABM representatives, Senior Assistant General Secretary, Lead Officer, representatives from the London Transport Regional Council and members of the NEC in attendance; to consult our reps on the situation and to consider our response including political representation and industrial responses up to and including strike action.

We further instruct the General Secretary to write to the company to secure paid release for this meeting.

The Cleaning Grades Committee, all London Underground branches and the London Transport Regional Council to be advised.
