Defending and improving conditions

We note the correspondence from Transport for London. However, having spoken to our representatives, we understand that although the policy may be the same as in previous years, the practice has abruptly changed.

We instruct the General Secretary to obtain the views of our TfL no.1 branch on this matter and place these in front of us.

We further note that our LU Trains Council representatives are having further discussions this week concerning ASLEF’s Boxing Day dispute, and instruct the General Secretary to obtain a report of these discussions and place it in front of us.

Transport union RMT said today that tube cleaners working for Initial and ISS will strike again over New Year in their fight for fair pay and workplace justice.

RMT cleaner members are instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between:-

05:30 on Monday 31st December 2012 to 05:29 Wednesday 2nd January 2013.

RMT General Secretary Bob Crow said;

ISS Industrial Action

In accordance with the request of our representatives, we instruct all members on this contract to take strike action by not booking on for any duties starting at or after 05:30 on Monday 31 December 2012 and to return to duties starting at or after 05:30 on Wednesday 2 January 2013.

We instruct the General Secretary to:
• send a personal letter by post to all members involved, explaining this action.
• email our London Underground members, urging their support for this action.

We note the correspondence from London Underground regarding the time allowance for detrainment of the S Stock. This union insists that all workers should have adequate time to carry out the tasks involved in their job.

We instruct the General Secretary to obtain reports as to progress on this issue, and on the issue of time for train preparation, through the Machinery of Negotiation and Consultation and to place these in front of us.

We note the correspondence from London Underground Ltd advising the launch of a new, annual, TfL-wide employee engagement survey called Viewpoint. We note that the results of the first of these is due in April 2013, and instruct the General Secretary to write to London Underground Ltd and TfL seeking their confirmation that no changes to our members’ conditions of employment that are not agreed with this union will be announced or imposed before the results are available.

We note the correspondence from Cubic, advising that its Christmas and New Year arrangements are the same as in previous years.

We note the resolution from our London Transport Regional Council and share its concern about the treatment of Occupational Health staff. We instruct the General Secretary to ensure that this issue is taken up with Transport for London in line with the resolution, and ask the Regional Council to report to us on its progress with pursuing this issue.
