Addison Lee Boss John Griffin's Comments Concerning London Cyclists Are Disturbing Say RMT London Taxi Branch

The RMT London Taxi Branch notes the disturbing comments made by Mr John Griffin concerning London Cyclists, This once again demonstrates his complete contempt for other road users.

This statement and his continued instruction to his drivers to flout the law in respect of Bus Lanes calls into question Addison Lee's fitness to hold a Private Hire Operators Licence.

If TfL fail in their attempts to prevent these illegal actions, we will act and invite all trade organisations to join us in that action

Justice For Asbestos Victims As Supreme Court Rules Against ‘Callous’ Insurers

I am writing to advise you of a landmark ruling by the Supreme Court which will effect many of the 2,500 people who are diagnosed with mesothelioma each year.

The Supreme Court upheld an appeal brought by Unite the Union and rejected arguments by insurance companies which would have denied compensation to victims of the terminal disease mesothelioma.

Judges in the country’s highest court agreed that the insurers of an employer at the time of the exposure to asbestos should pay compensation.

The RMT has organised a meeting to discuss 'racism, the state and the police.'

This special meeting aims to secure your solidarity. The meeting will cover the case of Sean Rigg and Christopher Alder. Sean, a young and talented musician died shortly after being detained by Brixton polive in 2008. Why he died remains unanswered.

Christopher Alder died in police custody in 1998. An inquest in 2001 recorded his death as unlawful killing. A year later, a court cleared the five police officers of manslaughter and misconduct.

RMT demands publication of the secret “RMT File” from blacklisting organisation as officials confirm police and security service involvement

RAIL UNION RMT today demanded full disclosure of the secret "RMT FILE" held by blacklisting organisation the Consulting Association as evidence mounts of police and security services involvement in the targeting of union activists in the construction and railway industries.

Police refuse to rule out phone hacking of RMT General Secretary Bob Crow

In a letter to RMT lawyers, Sue Akers, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police has refused to rule out suspicions that the telephone of RMT General Secretary Bob Crow may been hacked.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed today that the issue is being investigated as part of Operating Weeting - the new police probe into phone hacking.

Miscarriages of Justice Organisation (MOJO) speaker to attend Finsbury Park branch on January 14th

Finsbury Park branch will be inviting speakers from a range of progressive organisations and campaigns to speak to members every month forthwith as part of an effort to educate and inform members about wider political issues. The first speaker will be Paddy Hill from the Miscarriages of Justice Organisation who spent 16 years behind bars for a crime which the police and government knew he had no part in. Paddy will be speaking at the Twelve Pins public house at 6pm after the regular branch meeting.
