RMT Executive decisions

Decisions of RMT's Council of Executives, and of RMT's General Grades Committee (the section of the Council of Executives which deals with industrial matters for railway and other non-shipping grades)

RMT Fights for Fair Olympic Deal for All Grades of Transport Workers

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the correspondence from our TfL no.1 branch, and are appalled that this employer intends to severely restrict annual leave over the Olympic period, including banning annual leave during the Games altogether in at least one department. This will make life very difficult, if not impossible, for many of our members, for example those with school-age children. We are similarly appalled at TfL’s totally inadequate financial offer to our members, consisting solely of a £15 payment if a shift is changed.

RMT Accepts Tube Lines Pay Offer for 2013 and 2014

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note that Tube Lines has offered a pay rise of RPI+0.5% (minimum 2%) payable from 1st April 2013 and again from 1st April 2014.

We note that a meeting of our representatives agreed to recommend that the union should accept this offer, and that this is endorsed by both branches with Tube Lines members, and that neither branches nor representatives have indicated that they feel that a referendum of members is necessary.

We therefore instruct the General Secretary to advise Tube Lines of our acceptance of this offer.

RMT to Consult on Support for TUSC in GLA Election

RMT Council of Executives decision:

That we write to all Branches and Regional Councils in the Greater London Authority election area asking if they have any objections to supporting these candidates. We make clear to Branches we are seeking views on the GLA London wide Assembly top up list election and not the GLA constituency election or Mayoral election. A copy of the Trade Union & Socialist Coalition manifesto to also be enclosed in the letter to Branches.

Branch responses to be placed before the Council of Executives on 21st March.

RMT to Improve Website and Develop App

RMT Council of Executives decision:

That the Information and Communication Technology Sub-Committee work with the Communications Department and representatives of the presentation team in order to develop the appropriate technology for developing the RMT website and app.

Regional Councils and branches to be advised.

Taxi Complaint Procedures

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the resolution from our London Taxi branch, and the concern expressed by our members about the complaints procedure of the London Taxis and Private Hire Directorate of TfL. We instruct the General Secretary to obtain a report from the branch giving fuller details of its concerns, and once this report is received, to obtain the legal advice requested, within a reasonable timescale.

Taxi Identifier Tags

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the legal opinion on this matter, which is disappointing. We note that our London Taxi branch is due to discuss this matter at its meeting this evening, and instruct the General Secretary to place this matter back in front of us once the branch has communicated its views.

RMT Stands Up to Bullying at Thales

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note that our LU Engineering branch reports that following our decision to challenge Thales management last year about a bullying culture at Waterloo, the company took the following actions:

  • began to investigate the complaints both formally via a grievance and informally
  • implemented regular site visits by Human Resources to encourage staff to come forward with complaints etc
  • started to implement management training.

Our branch believes that this has led to a sea change and a vast improvement in treatment.
