Oppose racism and fascism. Battle of Cable Street anniversary march - 3rd October 1.00pm
On October 4, 1936, Sir Oswald Mosley and his British Union of Fascists tried to march along Cable Street. They wanted to stir up hatred against the local Jewish and Irish communities. As we know the fascists blamed Jews, immigrants, socialists and communists for mass unemployment, poverty and slum housing. But the people of East London chose unity over hatred. More than 100,000 protestors stopped the police from clearing a path for Mosley's Black shirts.
